Prosonic Flow 91 F881: Sensor Signal Checks
Flowmeter Diagnostics
On the Proline Prosonic Flow 91 covered here, F881 means excessive attenuation along the acoustic measuring path. It does not by itself identify a failed sensor. See the official F881 entry, page 56.
This guide covers the Proline Prosonic Flow 91 HART manual BA00100D/06/EN/13.11, for device software V1.02.XX. Confirm the instrument and manual revision before using it.
The manual classifies F as a failure for which measured values cannot be used. Maintenance belongs to qualified personnel authorized by the plant operator. Manual scope and safety.
What to check before replacing a sensor
The F881 entry points to coupling condition, attenuation in the liquid or pipe, and sensor spacing. It also allows fewer traverses only where the installation permits.
| Check | What to verify | Official manual |
|---|---|---|
| Coupling | For clamp-on sensors, inspect the coupling interface; a thicker layer is not automatically better. Follow the cleaning and reapplication instructions when a sensor is removed. | Page 51 |
| Spacing and setup | Compare the mounted spacing with the value determined for the actual sensor and installation. Recheck the setup inputs before moving sensors. | Page 14, page 46 |
| Traverse arrangement | One traverse places sensors on opposite sides; two place them on the same side. The appropriate arrangement depends on the sensor and pipe, so do not change the traverse setting alone. | Page 13 |
Check the exact code
F062 concerns an interrupted sensor connection. S437 concerns configuration, including sound-velocity search range or pipe-wave interference; use its separate diagnostic entry. F062, page 56; S437, page 58.
Record the check and the result
Make a short before-and-after record so the next person can see what changed. Keep the original configuration available, and change only a justified item at a time.
| Record | Before the check | After the check |
|---|---|---|
| Exact displayed code and when it appeared | Code, time, process condition | Code cleared, changed or unchanged |
| Instrument identification | Model, software and applicable manual | Note any corrected identification |
| Installation | Sensor identification, spacing and arrangement | What was verified or changed |
| Observation | Displayed signal indication and flow behavior, with units | Same observation under comparable conditions |
| Action | Reason for the selected check | Action, time and person performing it |
If the code persists after the applicable checks, send the record to the instrument support team. Ask which remaining observation would distinguish an installation issue from a component fault; the code alone is not a replacement-parts specification.
